2026 Mazda CX-90 Captain's Chairs vs. Bench Seat
The second-row choice decides whether your CX-90 seats seven or eight, and how your family gets to the third row. Here's which 2026 gas trims offer each layout and what changes with each.
Choose the bench seat if you need all eight seats or want room for three people in the second row. Choose captain's chairs if seven seats is enough and you want two individual second-row seats with a path between them to the third row. On 2026 gas models, the bench is standard on most trims, captain's chairs are optional on the Premium Sport, Premium Plus, and Turbo S Premium Sport, and the Turbo S Premium Plus comes only with captain's chairs.
2026 CX-90 Seating Configurations by Gas Trim

How to Decide
When the bench makes more sense
The bench gives you the CX-90's maximum of eight seats. That extra second-row position matters for larger families, carpools, or trips with grandparents along. The bench splits 60/40, reclines, and uses a slide-and-tilt mechanism so passengers can reach the third row from the side.
If you're installing child seats, count positions carefully. Mazda's specification deck lists lower anchors and top tethers in the second row, and top tethers in the third row. Check the owner's manual for exact seating positions before you buy.
When captain's chairs make more sense
Captain's chairs give second-row passengers their own seats and armrests. On the Premium Sport, Premium Plus, and Turbo S Premium Sport, the walkthrough between the chairs gives third-row riders a center path instead of climbing past a folded seat.
The Turbo S Premium Plus uses a different design: a center console with storage between the chairs, and ventilated second-row seats. You get more comfort features, but no center walkthrough.

- You want individual second-row seats
Pick the Turbo S Premium Plus if...

- You prefer a center console over a walkthrough
- You also want the 340-hp Turbo S engine
