2026 Mazda CX-70 Turbo vs. Turbo S | Mazda Cape Cod

2026 Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo vs. 3.3 Turbo S: Which Engine Output Fits?

Both versions use the same 3.3L turbocharged inline-6 with M Hybrid Boost and standard i-Activ AWD. The Turbo S adds 60 horsepower and 37 lb-ft of torque, recommends premium fuel, and only comes on the two most expensive trims.

Should I choose the 3.3 Turbo or the 3.3 Turbo S on a 2026 Mazda CX-70?
Choose the 3.3 Turbo (280 hp, 332 lb-ft) if you want to run on regular fuel and keep the price lower. It already tows up to 5,000 lbs. on the Premium and Premium Plus trims. Choose the 3.3 Turbo S (340 hp, 369 lb-ft) if you want the most power Mazda offers in the CX-70 and you're comfortable with premium fuel and Turbo S trim pricing. Towing capacity, seating, and EPA-estimated combined fuel economy (25 MPG) are the same between the two.

Which 2026 CX-70 Trims Have Each Engine?

Engine output is tied to trim, so choosing the Turbo S also means choosing one of its two trim levels. Starting MSRPs below are Mazda's published figures and exclude the $1,645 destination and handling charge, taxes, title, and other fees. Dealers set actual sale prices.

What Actually Changes Between the Two Engines

Power and torque

The Turbo S raises output from 280 to 340 horsepower and from 332 to 369 lb-ft of torque. Both peak figures arrive at the same engine speeds (5,000 rpm for horsepower, 2,000 rpm for torque), so the difference is in how much output is available, not where it shows up.

Mazda rates the Turbo S figures with premium fuel, which it recommends for this engine. The standard 3.3 Turbo is rated on regular fuel.

What stays the same

Both engines pair with the same 8-speed automatic, standard i-Activ AWD, Kinematic Posture Control, and the 48-volt M Hybrid Boost system. Both seat five, and both carry an EPA-estimated 25 MPG combined rating.

Towing is the most common surprise: once you move past the Preferred trim, the standard 3.3 Turbo reaches the same 5,000-lb. maximum as the Turbo S.

Equipment that comes with Turbo S trims

Because the Turbo S only comes on its own trims, you also get equipment that the standard engine's trims don't offer. According to Mazda's 2026 CX-70 specification deck, Turbo S trims add:

  • Driver Personalization System with power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel memory
  • Side mirrors with memory and tilt-down in reverse
  • Driver Monitoring
  • Smart Brake Support Turn-Across Traffic and Smart Brake Support Rear with pedestrian detection
  • 21-inch wheels with a machine-cut finish and body-color lower exterior trim
  • Induction Sound Enhancer and a larger 19.6-gallon fuel tank

One detail matters for Cape Cod winters: the windshield wiper de-icer and the 150-watt cargo outlet are standard on the 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus and Turbo S Premium Plus, but not on the Turbo S Premium. If you want those features with the Turbo S engine, you'll need the Turbo S Premium Plus.

Is the Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Worth It?

The closest price comparison is the 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus ($49,570) against the 3.3 Turbo S Premium ($53,440), a $3,870 difference in starting MSRP. For that, you get the higher-output engine and the Turbo S equipment listed above, but you give up the wiper de-icer and 150-watt outlet that the Turbo Premium Plus includes.

Whether that trade is worth it depends on what you value. Fuel costs depend on local prices and how you drive, so we won't estimate them for you. What doesn't change: the Turbo S engine is rated with premium fuel, and the standard engine is rated on regular.

The 3.3 Turbo fits if you want...

  • Regular-fuel operation
  • The lowest CX-70 entry price
  • 5,000-lb. towing without paying for Turbo S trims (Premium and up)
  • Wiper de-icer and 150-watt outlet at the Premium Plus level

The 3.3 Turbo S fits if you want...

  • The CX-70's highest output: 340 hp and 369 lb-ft
  • Driver Personalization and Driver Monitoring
  • The added Smart Brake Support functions
  • A larger fuel tank

Does the Engine Choice Affect Winter Traction?

Every 2026 CX-70 trim includes i-Activ AWD, so both engines send power to all four wheels when conditions call for it. More horsepower doesn't add grip in snow; tires and driving technique matter more. For a closer look at how Mazda's system works and why tires matter, read our Mazda i-Activ AWD winter driving guide.
